Students and faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) now can search with unparalleled levels of granularity for resources in the library’s collection plus more than 13 million items from 147 academic and research libraries in Illinois with Summon, a one-stop search engine.
Summon provides a powerful advantage to researchers by enabling them to discover archival materials, data, newspaper articles, realia, dissertations, and market research, in addition to books and journal articles within the UIC collection along with books in the libraries of the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI).
CARLI serves more than 94% of the higher education students in the state. In support of its mission to ensure faculty and students have access to a broad and diversified range of scholarly resources, UIC library staff worked with the Serials Solutions Summon product team to enable simultaneous discovery of the UIC collection and the collections from all consortia members – and access to the materials through interlibrary loan. Real-time availability of these resources is displayed in Summon so users can easily place holds and request items.
